Hamby's Founder, Fran Hamby established a family-oriented culture since our humble beginnings in 1979. This culture has been crucial to the company's success and time-treasured recipes. In 2017, after seven years with the company, Candice Culbertson Hudnall stepped in to oversee all operations of Hamby with her father, Wayne Culbertson. This duo marks the second, multi-generational ownership for Hamby Catering, making sure that heart and tradition stay at the root of our service.

The Rutledge Room: Extending Our Legacy

In the Fall of 2023, Hamby Catering launched its flagship event space, The Rutledge Room. Spanning 3,000 square feet, The Rutledge Room is intimate in nature, yet robust enough to leave a lasting impression. On-site rentals and in-house catering facilitated by the Hamby Catering & Events team live up to their legacy of all things timeless, Southern, and inventive. The space is rounded out through a partnership with Stay Duvet, Charleston’s premier vacation rental service, offering a total of eight luxurious units as well as personalized itineraries, stocked fridges via Hamby Catering’s Market and more.

Hamby was born from humble beginnings in 1979 when husband & wife team of Fran & Tom Hamby helped two close friends plan their daughter’s wedding reception. As word of mouth grew, so did their business and their son Steve Hamby joined Hamby Catering in 1987 as production manager. By 1988 Hamby as a full-fledged catering business & storefront in Charleston in 1988. Fast forward through decades of success led by the Hamby’s family-oriented culture. I bought the food for a baby shower I was hosting from the market at Hamby. Taylor was so helpful with the menu for our event, even suggesting that we add the homemade potato chips because they’re such a big hit. Well, not only were the chips a big hit, everything was. Whether it’s the tea sandwiches or the cheese straws to the meatballs and onion dip, everything is a not to be missed item. I love visiting the market to grab already prepared items. They make it so easy, and I’ve never not been asked “where are these yummy tea sammies from” or on the flip side for those that have had them before it’s “omg you got Hamby?!” With that look of pure excitement in their eyes!
